I was down to one family member, one shed, $33, and a chicken. I made it to the 19 th year through this reasoning, but things certainly looked dismal. My reasoning was that once I was down to either crops or livestock, I would be down to nothing if weather or thieves took one or the other. The labor percentage was huge with only a family of 4, so as family members began dying, I thought I really needed to buy a plow, but could never afford it and maintain the crop/livestock mix. I thought that might bring problems later with drug cartels.
I refused a salesman who wanted me to grow poppy plants for $25. Of course, I couldn’t add the family members back after they died of diseases. My chickens and shovel were stolen, but I managed to make enough to add them back for most of the 18 years. Will you prosper despite corruption and lack of basic neccessities Or.
I studied the stats after every year and because of the fluctuation in prices for crops and livestock it was difficult to choose a plan of action for the next year. 3rd World Farmer lets you experience some of the hardships of farming in a poor country. Of course I never had over 3 chickens and a pig. I continued to grow a mix of cotton, wheat, and sometimes corn and always maintained livestock. After losing back down to $50 because the global market did my crops in that year…I decided to risk it and grow cotton and peanuts to make enough money to buy a shed and livestock. Wheat and corn were the cheapest to begin with so I managed to make enough the next year to buy a shovel and to include cotton in the crop mix. In the beginning, with only $50 I decided to vary my crops. After a few years in this game, it becomes very clear that it’s all about survival. The game has been ported to HTML5 and should now run in most modern browsers on most operating systems and devices.This was probably the most depressing game I’ve ever played, but I actually enjoyed trying to survive the simulation. It is meant to be both educational and slightly provocative, with the sole intent of making people think about these topics and, hopefully, realize that each of us can make a difference in helping to end poverty.ģrd World Farmer no longer requires Flash Player, which has reached end of life in January 2021.
